All About Me
I was born into a lineage of Seamstress. My Grandmother owned a Bed and Breakfast, right off the train track in Guyton, Georgia. During that time Black people wasn’t allowed to stay in hotels. So she would cook for the people off the train and provide a place to stay. She was full of hospitality. She was also the neighborhood seamstress, she would make clothes for families and the community.
When I would visit my Grandmother Bulah , she would teach me how to sew and cook. My Grandmother was a business woman and she wanted to make sure that the gift was passed down. She knew that I was showing interest , so she decided to teach me everything she could. I enjoyed going to her home. She taught me how to make quilts and how to sew by hand. This was the beginning of my love for sewing
My Mother was also a seamstress, she continued in the gift. My mother (Minnie Hills-Ross) worked for a sewing factory where she did upholstery and sewing for all types of things . My mom brought me a sewing machine so that I could learn more. We didn’t have a lot of money and we couldn’t afford new furniture. So my mom taught me how to take everything apart on the furniture to get a pattern, Afterwards we would then upholstery the sofa and make window curtains to match it. Eventually as I got older , I was able to look at anything and upholstery it or sew an outfit with out a pattern. My mother then told me she was gonna get me a job at the sewing factory where she worked. I began to work with her.
I began making clothes for my brother on my free time when I got older. I would design it and then sew the outfit. My brother won best dress at his High School from the clothes I made for him , because no one else had it. When I had children, I would make their clothes , their clothes were soo cute. The I began Upholstering cars for family members and friends. I went to school for nursing and was in the nursing field for 30+ years. I continued to sew for family and friends as a hobby. Sewing has always been apart of my life. I have 50+ years experience in Upholstery , Sewing, Designing , and Customizing. Lets WORK TOGETHER !!
